Pick the Kenwood DRV-A310W for simple 1080p front recording with Wi-Fi and GPS. Pick a 4K front camera like the Kenwood DRV-A610WDP or the Thinkware U1000 or U1000 Plus for the sharpest footage, and any system with parking mode if you want it watching while the car is parked, which needs a hard-wired install.
A front camera records the road ahead. A front and rear system adds a second camera for the back window, so a hit from behind is on video too. Every system here except the Kenwood DRV-A310W includes a rear camera, per its listing.
Every dash cam here is on our listings. We install dash cams in our own bay at 22025 S Avalon Blvd Ste A.
This table is built only from our own product listings. Where a listing does not state a spec, the cell says so instead of guessing.
Resolution decides how readable a plate or a sign is in the footage. Wi-Fi lets you watch and save clips on your phone, and GPS logs speed and location with the video.

The Kenwood DRV-A310W records 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps with a 136-degree view, has a 2-inch color screen, a G-sensor, GPS logging of location and speed and Wi-Fi to the Kenwood Dash Cam Manager app. It takes microSD cards from 8 to 256GB (not included), works on 12V and 24V systems, and supports parking mode with the optional CA-DR1130 hardwire kit.
The Kenwood DRV-A510WDP records 1440p up front with a Sony Starvis sensor, and its IP67 rear camera records 1080p on a 26-foot cable for inside or outside mounting, which helps on trucks. The DRV-A610WDP steps up to 4K front and 1440p rear and includes a 64GB card.
The Thinkware Q1000 records 2K up front, and the U1000 and U1000 Plus record 4K, all with rear cameras, Wi-Fi and GPS. When hard-wired, they keep watching in parking mode and save clips when they sense an impact or motion.
The Momento M7 records 2K with a rear camera and parking mode when hard-wired; the M7 Wi-Fi adds Wi-Fi for phone playback. For these, the listings note the shop hard-wires the camera, hides the cables behind the trim and sets the parking-mode cut-off so it does not drain the battery.

For an alarm, Viper is the brand we install: the 3108V and 3308V add an impact sensor, six-tone siren and starter interrupt, and the 5308V and 5908V add remote start. To know where the car is, the Viper VSM550 SmartStart Pro adds GPS location on demand, SmartFence, speed and tow alerts and alarm notifications on your phone, with a service plan. To have video of what happens while you are away, pick a dash cam with parking mode, like the Thinkware U1000 or Q1000, hard-wired by the shop.
Read itPick the radio around your car and how you use your phone, not around the biggest screen on the wall. Decide wired or wireless, figure out what shape your dash allows, and plan to keep your steering wheel buttons and factory features. Then we confirm the exact parts for your vehicle before anything comes apart.
Read itFor most cars, the simple setup is a receiver with a camera input plus the Kenwood CMOS-230LP1, which Kenwood lists as working with most aftermarket receivers that have a camera input. For a sharper picture, the Kenwood CMOS-740HDLP shoots 1280 x 720 HD, but it connects through HD-TVI and works only with select Kenwood receivers that support HD cameras. If you also want a front or side camera, pick a receiver with more than one camera input, like the JVC KW-M875BW, Kenwood DMX958XR
Read itIf you want rear-end hits on video, yes. Every system in our table except the Kenwood DRV-A310W includes a rear camera.
