Viper Remote Start and Alarm Systems Compared: 2103V, 3108V, 3308V, 5308V, 5908V and SmartStart

For remote locks only, the Viper 2103V adds keyless entry with an impact sensor. For theft protection, the 3108V is a 1-way security system and the 3308V adds a 2-way LCD remote that confirms commands. For remote start plus security, pick the 5308V with a 2-way LCD remote and about a quarter mile of range, or the 5908V with a 2-way color LCD remote and up to a mile. To start and track the car from your phone, add the VSM550 SmartStart Pro module, which needs a service plan.

Viper is the alarm line we install

Viper is the only alarm brand we install, every remote start system on our listings is Viper too, and every system here is on our listings. For a plain-language look at 1-way, 2-way and smartphone control, see our Viper 1-way vs 2-way vs smartphone guide.

We install Viper systems in our own bay at 22025 S Avalon Blvd Ste A in Carson. Push-to-start and key-start cars need different bypass parts, per the 5308V listing, so bring the year, make and model and how the car starts.

Keyless entry and security

The Viper 2103V is keyless entry: two 4-button remotes with up to 1/4-mile range, panic/car locator, flashing parking lights, ignition-controlled door locks and an impact sensor. Its listing calls it a simple way to add remote locks to an older vehicle or one that lost its factory fobs.

The 3108V and 3308V are full security systems with an impact sensor, six-tone siren and starter interrupt. The 3108V comes with two 1-way remotes, and the 3308V adds a 2-way LCD remote that confirms alarm alerts right on the remote.

Remote start and security

The Viper 5308V combines remote start with a security system: a siren, a shock sensor and a starter kill, with a 2-way LCD remote that confirms when the car has started, locked or been disturbed, and range of up to about a quarter mile.

The Viper 5908V steps up to a 2-way color LCD remote with USB-C charging and up to 1 mile of range, with remote start for warming or cooling the cabin, keyless entry, an impact sensor, six-tone siren and starter interrupt.

Phone control with SmartStart Pro

The Viper VSM550 SmartStart Pro is a 4G LTE GPS module that controls a compatible Viper system from your phone: start, lock, unlock and trunk with range wherever there is cell service, plus location on demand, trip history, SmartFence geofence alerts, speed and tow alerts and alarm notifications. A service plan is required.

The 2103V, 3108V, 3308V, 5308V and 5908V listings each say they can work with SmartStart, so you can start with a remote and add phone control later.
