Costa Mesa questions we hear
Why would a Costa Mesa Tesla owner drive to Carson for window tint?
Because the rear glass on a Model 3 or Y is one big curved piece that shows every speck of dust and every seam. The film is cut on the car inside an enclosed bay and shrunk as a single sheet. Getting it done once properly is why owners make the drive.
Does ceramic film interfere with the Tesla phone key or Autopilot?
No. Ceramic film is non-metallic, so the phone key, key card, cellular and GPS work as before. Film goes on the door glass and rear window only, never over the camera housings, so Autopilot and the cabin camera are untouched.
How dark can I go on a Tesla in California?
Front side windows must let in at least 70 percent of light. Rear side windows and the back glass can be darker. We will show you ceramic shades on real glass at the shop so you can see the difference before you decide.
Can I wait at the shop while the Tesla is tinted?
Yes. A full Tesla tint is a few hours, and you are welcome to wait, or drop the car and come back later the same day. Keep the windows up for a few days after so the film cures. Book ahead so the bay is reserved.
Do you install a dash camera on a Tesla too?
Yes. Dash camera installation on a Tesla is hardwired to a fused circuit so it records while parked without draining the 12-volt battery, and the cable is hidden in the headliner. It is quoted at the shop and can be done in the same visit as tint.
